History/Origin McAulay Street is named in commemoration of Ronald Peter McAulay, former NT & Federal Police Commissioner; joined the SA Police Force at the age of 18; served with Australian Police Contingent of UN forces in Cyprus during 1968 and became the NT Police Commissioner in 1978; appointed an officer of the Order of Australia in June 1988; retired from the Australian Police Force in 1994 and died in November 1995 aged 63
