History/Origin Caldwell Road is named in commemoration of Wing Commander Clive Robertson "Killer" Caldwell DSO, DFC (and Bar) (1911-1994) who commanded No 1 and 80 Fighter Wings at Sattler Airfield and was the highest scoring RAAF fighter pilot during WWII.

The following is a summary of the Australian War Memorial webpage dedicated to Caldwell:-
Caldwell having already learnt to fly before the War, joined the RAAF when war broke out and in 1941 was sent to the Middle East, where he flew P-40 Tomahawks in the No 250 Sqdn RAF and later Kittyhawks with the No 112 Sqdn RAF, which he commanded. His flying skill and shooting accuracy, soon established his as a leading "ace", and eventually he shot down 20 German and Italian planes. He is known to have shot down 5 German Junkers Ju 87s in one day.

In 1942 he returned to Australia to assist in its defence against the Japanese. He was based in Darwin, taking command of No1 Fighter Wing.

After the war, Caldwell became a successful businessman.
