History/Origin This locality takes its name from Koolpinyah Station established in 1908 by the Herbert brothers, Evan and Oscar, the sons of Justice Herbert, were for leases at "Umpty Doo" and "Koolpinyah". The Herbert brothers later combined their operations at Koolpinyah.
The station homestead was near a waterhole which the aboriginals called "Gulpinyah", which was interpreted for the station name as "Koolpinyah". The Herbert brothers, continued on their property until their deaths in 1974.
