History/Origin |
The Buchanan locality is named after Nathaniel (Nat) Buchanan who in 1877, together with ""Greenhide"" Sam Croker were the first to take cattle overland from Camooweal, across the Barkly Tablelands to the Telegraph Line, north of Tennant Creek then on to the Victoria River. The route between the Overland Telegraph Line to the Victoria River became known as the Murranji Track. Nat Buchanan held pastoral leases in the VRD area. |
