History/Origin La Pira Circuit is named in commemoration of Pietro (Peter) La Pira (1913-1992) who migrated to Australia in 1952 from Torino, northern Italy. Not long after arriving in Australia he formed a partnership with Joe Vogliotti which later became Interconstruction Pty Ltd, specialising in subdivision and Stuart Highway and beef road construction contracts.
In 1964, Peter married Nica, a local farmer's daughter, whom he had met while on holiday in Torino. Peter Junior was born in 1965.
With continued growth of the company, the La Pira family invested in property, through Joondanna Investments, developing the Asti Motel and Karama and Palmerston Shopping complexes. Peter La Pira succumbed to cancer and died in 1992 in Bowral Hospital, NSW, aged 78
