History/Origin Named in commemoration of Donald Gordon Tulloch (1924 - 1991), scientist who moved to the Territory in 1957, taking up the newly created position of Research Scientist with the Northern Territory Animal Industry Branch, having previously worked for the Queensland Government.

Although he undertook extensive research on magpie geese, it is his work with buffalo that Don Tulloch is best known for and for which he received a Master of Science (Agriculture), as an external student, with his thesis becoming the authority on buffalo behaviour.
By 1960, Don began travelling to buffalo research centres around the world and between 1961 and 1991 he published about 30 papers which were available in Australia and overseas.

In 1975 he transferred to CSIRO and studied the interactive plant and animal ecology of the coastal plains, again undertaking work on magpie geese.

Don received a number of awards during his life including being made an Honorary Research Fellow with CSIRO. In 1984 he became the Founding Secretary of NT Buffalo Industry Council.
Don Tulloch was enormously admired and respected, both as a man and as a buffalo expert.

Don was married to Pam and they had three children who attended Parap Primary School, which he supported. Other than his work he enjoyed gardening, stamp collecting and car restoration. He died in Darwin in January 1991.
