History/Origin Named after Sister Eucharia Pearce, one of three foundation members to arrive at Garden Point Mission, Melville Island on 25 June 1941.

Sister Eucharia assisted in the evacuation of children from Melville Island to Darwin during WWII. From Darwin they were evacuated to South Australia. In 1945 they were able to return to Melville Island.

In 1946, Sister Eucharia left Melville Island to work with leprosy patients in various locations, including Darwin, Channel Island and East Arm.

During the 1970s, Sister Eucharia established the Tiwi Islands clothing company Bima Wear.

Sister Eucharia was named in the Queen's Honours List and was made a Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) in a ceremony held on 13 June 1981 on Bathurst Island. She retired in 1987.

The theme, Top End Catholic Priests and Religious, was selected through consultation with Larrakia Development Corporation.
