| History/Origin | Duffield Street is named in commemoration of Arthur (Art) Angus Duffield (1924-2004), who was born in South Australia and joined the Army at Murray Bridge, SA, in November 1942. He served overseas (Papua New Guinea and Borneo) with the 2/32 Australian Infantry Battalion and was discharged in August 1946. Art married Betty in Adelaide in 1951 and in the late 1950s the family moved to Darwin, where Art had a 3 year contract with the PMG. Art continued working for PMG /Telecom, even after Cyclone Tracy when he lived in his 34 ft cruiser whilst his family was evacuated. Art was a founding, life and committee member and also Commodore of the Darwin Sailing Club. On Art's retirement, he and Betty bought a block at Howard Springs. After several years there, they moved to Moulden where Betty still lives. Art died, aged 79 years, in February 2004. |
