History/Origin Named after Patrick (Sonny) John Toft, a carpenter who travelled all over the Territory from 1964, including to Hooker Creek (now Lajamanu), Hermannsburg and Beswick among many other places. Sonny was supervising the mobile workforce and was with the mobile workforce at the time of Cyclone Tracy. He became heavily involved in the repairing and rebuilding of Darwin. Sonny was also the President of the Nightcliff Lions Club and a long time member of the Darwin Turf Club.
