History/Origin Named after Kurt Johanssen who was in Deep Well south of Alice Springs in 1915. He specialised as a mechanic, engineer, and inventor but was also a miner and bushman. He was probably best known for building his own roadtrains and pioneering cattle cartage by truck, a task that had been traditionally carried out by drovers. His old truck now rests at the National Road Transport Hall of Fame in Alice Springs. He was also an accomplished Aviator.
