| History/Origin | Named after Olive Muriel Pink who was born in Tasmania in 1884. She came to Central Australia in the 1930s and became well known for her espousing of the Aboriginal cause. Her sole interest in later years was the tending this Flora and Fauna Reserve on the east bank of the Todd river which was named after her in 1975, shortly after her death at the age of 91. The "Reserve" has now been given "Botanic Garden" status. Originally named Olive Pink Botanic Gardens (NTG17 24/04/1996) in error. Included in the Register of the National Estate, see http://www.heritage.gov.au/cgi-bin/ahpi/record.pl?RNE19144 |
