History/Origin Kulaluk is an Aboriginal community located within Darwin. In 1979, the Northern Territory Government granted a Special Purpose Lease (later, Crown Lease in Perpetuity) over the land to the Larrakia people.

The name is derived from the Kulaluk (or Galalak) tree over a jungle fowl's nesting mound at sacred land within the area.
