| History/Origin |
Named after the Frenchman, Thomas Nicholas Baudin, who was commissioned by the French Government to conduct surveys and natural science observations along the coast of Australia in the 1800s. In 1803, aboard the 'Le Geographe', he passed along the western side of the Territory coast naming the Peron Islands, Cape Fourcroy and Joseph Bonaparte Gulf. He died on Mauritius returning to France in September 1803.
