History/Origin Named in 1996 in commemoration of Noel BUNTINE who was born in Queensland, 10 December 1927. In the early 1950s he entered the transport industry and went on to establish Buntine Roadways which was reputed to be one of the largest livestock transport companies in the world. Noel through his company pioneered the use of triple trailers, double decker trailers and in the early days, the very acceptance of trucking cattle. Noel served over 15 years on the Pastoral Land Board and 6 years as Chairman. Noel's interest in horse racing expanded to where he was a life member of Katherine and Darwin Turf Clubs. Noel died on 11 January 1994.
