Named after Thomas (Tom) and Patrick (Paddy) CAHILL. Tom Cahill brought the third mob of cattle to Wave Hill in 1883 then managed the Station for several years. Patrick (Paddy) Cahill was a well known buffalo shooter and horse rider. He was known to shoot 45 buffalo in one day and had his horse so well trained that on its own accord it would proceed to each carcase in turn and stand there until the skinning operation was finished. He was Superintendent of Alligator River Reserve and Protector of Aborigines in 1913. |
