History/Origin Named after the River which in turn was named by Finniss after Sir Dominick Daly who was the Governor General of South Australia at the time of B T Finniss' ill-fated Escape Cliffs settlement at the mouth of the Adelaide River. In 1865, Finniss was exploring the area west of the settlement when he discovered and named the Daly River after Sir Dominick Daly.
