History/Origin Emma Jane Lambrick (née Dillon), born on 4 August 1822 in Perranarworthal, Cornwall, was the first European woman known to have died at Port Essington during European occupation. She was the twin daughter of Lieutenant Edward Dillon of the Royal Navy and his wife Susan. Emma married Lieutenant George Lambrick in 1842, and the couple had a daughter, Emma, born on 16 August 1843 in East Stonehouse, Devon.

In April 1844, George Lambrick was assigned to oversee a convict ship, the Cadet, which was to deliver convicts to Hobart before proceeding to Port Essington. Emma accompanied her husband on this journey, and during the voyage, she gave birth to a son, George Lambrick Jr, in October 1844. The family arrived at Port Essington in late 1844, where they were housed in a small wooden dwelling above the storekeeper's quarters. The settlement's policy was to keep married men and their families apart from other residents.

Tragically, Emma's son George Jr died in early 1845, and she herself passed away in October 1846, likely due to complications related to childbirth. She was buried beside her son at the Victoria Settlement burial ground. A memorial inscription reads: "In memory of Mrs Lambrick and child. Dearly beloved wife of Lieut Lambrick 47th Regt Hobart Died Port Essington".

Several locations in present day Palmerston commemorate the Lambrick family: Lambrick Avenue, Dillon Circuit, Dillon Park, and Menzies Court. These names honour Lieutenant George Lambrick, his first wife Emma, and his third wife Matilda Menzies.
