History/Origin Named after Raffles Bay on the Cobourg Peninsula, the site of Fort Wellington, the second European settlement in the NT. The Fort was occupied from June 1827 to August 1829. Captain Phillip Parker King named Raffles Bay in honour of Sir Thomas Stamford Raffles (of Singapore fame) on 16 April 1816.
