Cockburn's "What's in a Name" indicates that the station was named after Lady Charlotte Bacon, daughter of the Earl of Oxford. Lady Charlotte was an aquaintance of Alexander Tolmer. Lady Chalotte's son, Harley, was a member of the party which paved the way for the construction of the OT Line.
