History/Origin | In 1865, during his exploration of the coastline south-west of the Escape Cliffs settlement to Victoria River as instructed by the South Australian Government, whilst looking for the mouth of the Finniss River (discovered and named by Fred Litchfield), Colonel Boyle Travers discovered and named the Daly River after Sir Dominick Daly, the Governor General of South Australia at the time of Finniss' ill-fated settlement at the mouth of the Adelaide River. |
