History/Origin G.G.McLachlan, most likely named this mountain just east of Allamber Springs after Harrison D. Packard, a surveyor colleague of his. Packard and his wife were at Escape Cliffs in 1865 and later at Palmerston (now Darwin) when the town was established in 1869.
