History/Origin This feature separating the East and Middle Arms of the Darwin Harbour was named Middle Point by Wickham and Stokes on the Beagle during their investigation of Port Darwin in 1839.

The point was renamed Wickham Point in February 1991 to avoid confusion with the population centre near Fogg Dam due to the possible development of the point as an industrial area, is named after Wickham, Captain of the Beagle.
