History/Origin This locality takes its name from the early townsite of Town of Daly which was surveyed as part of Goyder's Survey of Port Darwin and Environs in 1869 and was obviously named after the nearby Daly Range, which in turn had been named, in 1862, by John McDouall Stuart after the Irish Governor of South Australia, Dominick Daly. The pegged townsite (and nearby cemetery) was never occupied under title nor effectively used as a townsite. Its few streets contain the names of the survey staff who helped carry out the pegging survey. Auld's Lagoon (called by the Aborigines "Gwiki") is adjacent to the townsite of Daly.
