| History/Origin | Lloyd Creek takes its name from Lloyds Creek, one of two creeks in the area named by Frederick Henry Litchfield during the Finniss Expedition in 1865 and later incorporated into Goyder's surveys of the Hundreds in 1869. Litchfield recorded the naming of Lloyds Creek on 1 June 1865. The creek is thought to commemorate expedition member John Vereker Lloyd, who arrived at Escape Cliffs aboard the Bengal in 1865 and joined Litchfield's exploration party. A 1927 obituary recorded that Lloyd participated in exploration of the surrounding country and later wrote in his diary that a river had been named after him. |
