History/Origin The station takes its name from the nearby Newcastle Waters (waterhole).

The Newcastle Waters station was taken up by Dr WB Browne in the early 1880s. Browne also took up Springvale and Delamere, and had established Newcastle Waters by 1884 with cattle overlanded from Queensland. Browne sold the station to John Lewis and family around 1890. The Lewis family ran Newcastle Waters until a1948 when it was subleased to Roy Edwards and others. In 1950s it was sold to Roy Edward's Newcastle Water Ltd.

Ashburton Pastoral Co, Consolidated Pess Holdings and Consolidated Pastoral Holdings (Packer family) were subsequent owners of Newcastle Waters station.
