| History/Origin |
The locality derives its name from Cox Peninsula, named after early pastoralist Matthew Dillon Cox, who established a cattle station on the peninsula in the early 1870s. Contemporary records referred to both "Cox's Peninsula" and "Douglas Peninsula", with both names remaining in use for many years. Cox's association with the area ultimately gave rise to the enduring name Cox Peninsula. |
