| History/Origin |
Maningrida as an administrative area is based on and takes its name from the Aboriginal community of the same name, established in 1949 as a trading post with Aboriginal people of the area. Following a census in 1955 which indicated a large number of Aboriginal people were residing at the trading post, the Government decided to establish a Community at the site on the banks of the Liverpool River. |
