History/Origin |
Milikapiti as an administrative area is based on and takes its name from the Aboriginal community of the same name. The Community started in 1941 when Patrol Officer Jack Gribble was sent to Snake Bay to establish a Naval, RAAF and Army base to help in the defence of Australia during World War II. The Community retained the name Snake Bay, after the bay the community over looks, until the 1980s. |
