| History/Origin |
Pirlangimpi as an administrative area is based on and takes its name from the Aboriginal community of the same name, on Melville Island, established as a Mission by the Catholic Church in 1940 and known as Garden Point. In 1979, following a request from the traditional owners, the Community was renamed Pularumpi and more recently to Pirlangimpi. |
