History/Origin Walter Lew Fatt Snr. (1911-1973)

Walter Lew Fatt was born on 10 August 1911 at Delisaville (Belyuen) to a Chinese father and an Aboriginal Larrakia mother. Walter met and married Monica (nee Quall) in 1936. Together they had 10 children, all raised and educated in Darwin. Monica was evacuated to South Australia with the children during the war and Bombing of Darwin in 1942. Walter remained in Darwin working for the Railways. The family returned to the Northern Territory after the war and settled in Pine Creek for two years, before moving back to Darwin and the 118 Parap Camp. Walter spent his entire football career playing for the Darwin Buffaloes and played in 10 Grand Finals from 1930 through to 1942. The Lew Fatt family were one of 200 families honoured for their contribution to sport and involvement in the community with the unveiling of a plaque on the Esplanade in Darwin. Walter died on 5 January 1973, aged 62 Years.
