History/Origin Quinine is the name of a small tree with dense canopy and dropping branches, usually growing 5-8 metres tall but exceptionally to 12 metres. The bole is often crooked. The plant is sometime harvested from the wild for local use as a medicine and source of wood. The foliage may be poisonous, particularly after rain. Quinine is found in Northern Territory, New South Wales, Queensland, Western Australia, to New Guinea.
