History/Origin | Named after Captain Barneson who was in command of the ship Moonta which was chartered to take Surveyor General Goyder and party to Port Darwin. The Moonta arrived at Port Darwin on 5 February 1869 and remained whilst the Town of Palmerston (now Darwin) was surveyed. The commemorative name 'Barneson' was placed on a reserve list for future use upon revocation that occurred when the name Garramilla Boulevard was registered in 2018. |
