| History/Origin | Named after BASTIN Boucaut a survey hand on the Finniss Survey Expedition of 1864. Bastin Boucaut was the son of Captain Ray Boucaut, an early colonialist of Adelaide and a brother of (Sir) James Penn Boucaut who later entered Parliament. Dr Goldsmith reported Bastin Boucaut's illness in early September 1864 "due to the deleterious effect of the water at Escape Cliffs". He was ill for a fortnight and died on 16 September 1864. Sir James Boucaut (Bastin's brother) was born at Mylor in England in 1831 and came out with his father to South Australia in 1846. Sir James had a parliamentary career of 27 years including a period as Premier (South Australia?). Another brother was Ray Boucaut who was in charge of the Tennant Creek Overland Telegraph when it was built in 1872. |
