Named after the Peninsula of land designated shown as "Elrundie Flat" on the 1869 plan Data Book 1 Folio 10 by AJ Mitchell, a member of Goyder's Northern Territory Expedition which surveyed Darwin and environs, and believed to be of Aboriginal origin.
